Home Networking Package
Home Networking made easy
Basic Home Networking
In order for the Home Networking Package to work within your home, you need to have a router for your devices to work from, be it wireless or Ethernet based. For the fastest transfer speeds in between PC and media device, we suggest an Ethernet connection.
Your Home Networking Package is ready to use once you’ve activated it in My Account. Not sure? Check out the Home Networking info widget on your My Account Dashboard. From the moment you’ve activated Home Networking, you have up to 24 hours for the Media Access Key to appear on your TiVo media device under Account & System Information. Once the Media Access Key is displayed, your TiVo is ready to connect with other devices!
In the meantime, download the appropriate TiVo Desktop software for your PC or Mac from My Account. This software is part of the Home Networking Package.
TiVo Desktop for PC
Upon start up of TiVo Desktop, add your music, photo, or video folders via the Share Music, Photos & Videos button. Now you’re ready to go! Stream your music and photos to your TiVo by going to Music, Photos, & Showcases. Please note that music files must be in MP3 format and protected content such as ACC or iTunes-purchased music, will not stream to your TiVo. Transfer your video files to your TiVo by selecting your PC from the Now Playing List and pressing SELECT on those files you wish to copy to your TiVo.
To pull recordings from your TiVo media device to your PC, go to TiVo Desktop and select Pick Recordings to Transfer then tick any programmes you want transferred. These will queue up and transfer one by one; view their progress by clicking the Transfer Status button. All completed transfers can be found in your My TiVo Recordings folder, under My Documents.
Take your TiVo recordings on the road by converting them for use with your portable devices! Once the show has completed transferring to your TiVo Desktop Now Playing List, right-click on the recording and select Convert For... then select your portable device from the available drop-down list. Once completed, this converted file can be found in your My TiVo Recording for Portables folder under My Documents.
For more detailed instructions on setup and use, please download the TiVo Desktop User Guide for PC.
Multi-Room Viewing
With the activation of the Home Networking Package on your TiVo My Account, every TiVo media device on your account receives your Media Access Key (MAK). Enabling of the MAK on your household TiVo media devices allows them to transfer to each other across your home network. Once the MAK is made available on your media devices, when you go into the Now Playing List you will see every TiVo on your network listed at the bottom. Until you rename your device via your TiVo My Account, the TiVo will show up as DVR-[LAST FOUR DIGITS OF TSN].
To transfer a recording from one TiVo to another, go into the Now Playing List of the TiVo you want to transfer TO and select the name of the media device you want to transfer FROM. Select any recordings you wish to be transferred and follow the directions on the screen.
To transfer a paused recording to another TiVo, pause the recording you are watching on one TiVo, let’s call it the Lounge TiVo. Go to the TiVo you want to transfer to – we’ll call it Bedroom TiVo – and open the Now Playing List. Select “Lounge TiVo” and scroll through Lounge Room’s Now Playing List until your find your paused program. On the transfer screen, select Transfer from paused point.
Please note: you must have more than one TiVo to use Multi-Room Viewing.
